The Tigers returned to action in 2014 determined to build on a good showing in their last performance of 2013 and they didn’t disappoint.
From start to finish the boy's decision making on the ball was spot on today even if the opening exchanges were scrappy with set pieces looking the mostly likely source of a goal. And that proved the case as the Tigers were awarded a third free kick in the attacking third after 15 minutes after good work from Owen. Joseph stepped up and although the Chellaston wall blocked the shot, the ball sat up nicely for Joseph to take aim and his dipping shot found the back of the net, 1-0 Tigers. The boys were visibly lifted by the goal and they began to penetrate the Chellaston midfield with some accurate passing.
Half time 1-0, but the boys were reminded of their last encounter with Chellaston when, from a similar position they failed to kill off their opponents.
Lucas and Chris entered the action at half-time and were immediately involved. Chris’s accurate pass put Joseph through on goal and only a brave double save and goal mouth scramble prevented the Tigers doubling their lead.
At the back, George and Josh were concentrating well as Chellaston began to look a threat on the counter attack.
The Tigers got that all important second goal with six minutes remaining after good work from Lucas on the right followed by an interchange of passes on the edge of box, before Lucas coolly slotted home, 2-0 Tigers.
The Tigers were now in confident mood and quickly added a third goal – again a neat finish from Lucas after building an attack down the left. The Tigers were now looking unstoppable from the wide positions and only another save from the Chellaston keeper at the death prevented Lewis adding a fourth.
Quite possibly the most complete performance of our season so far. Oli in goal handled everything comfortably, Josh was rarely beaten in defence, George organised and made good decisions, Lewis provided energy and an outlet down the left, Chris showed real composure on the ball, Joseph and Theo dominated midfield, and both Owen and Lucas were a real handful in the attacking third. Well done boys – a great team effort!
