The Tigers signed off 2013 against a Belvedere team flying high in the league and containing a couple of ex-Tigers in Jacob and Tristan.

The game began at a frantic pace with the Tigers on the front foot and first to every loose ball.  The Tigers created the first real chance with Lewis's turn and shot well saved by the legs of the keeper before being scrambled away.

The desire of both teams to gain the advantage meant that this game became a physical affair which the referee did well to contain.  Time and again the coaches of both teams were called to attend to injured players.  The Tigers were passing the ball better though and one such move saw Lewis break away from the Belvedere defence before a crude tackle from behind meant play was again stopped.  Joseph stood over the resultant free kick looking purposeful before unleashing a shot which crashed against the bar before being scrambled away!!  The Tigers had edged the first half although keeper Oliver had been called upon twice to take charge in a congested Tigers penalty box from dangerous looking Belvedere set pieces.  Half time 0-0.

A reshuffle in midfield was needed at half time with Joseph receiving ice to a sore knee and it was possibly his absence in midfield which led to the Tigers conceding territory.  In the heart of the defence, George was next to need treatment but after a lengthy delay the skipper was able to continue.

The 'shots against' the Tigers began to increase during the second half and after a few wayward shots Belvedere began to find their range with Oli become more and more involved, thwarting the Belvedere attack on numerous occasions.

One such occasion saw Oliver race from his line and bring down the Belvedere forward on the edge of the box, a clear foul although Oli only had eyes for the ball.

The resultant free-kick saw the entire Tigers team lined up on the goal-line to defend what would surely be a shot on goal.  Oli somehow appeared from behind the defensive wall to palm away the goal bound shot and the ball was scrambled away.

The game had now entered its final phase and if a late goal was to prove the winner it would've been harsh on either side.

A wayward Tigers pass out of defence was returned first time by a Belvedere midfielder and their forward read it perfectly to find himself with space behind and clean through before his low shot found the far corner of the net to give them the lead.

Whilst the Tigers pushed forward looking for an equaliser, the clock was now against us and so the Tigers were left to reflect on being unable to capitalise on periods where they were on top.

So, a performance that deserved something resulted in nothing, but when we resume the second half of this season, if we can repeat performances such as this one, we'll surely find ourselves advancing up the league table.

Parents/Supporters MOTM Oliver Collins.

Coaches MOTM... the entire team for effort!
