The Tigers got off to a flyer in this battle of the bottom two. Straight from the off the Tigers were linking up well and it was no surprise when Fantarrow put them 1-0 up with a fine dipping shot from outside the area. Chellaston hit back though, producing a series of corners that led to several half chances being poked just wide. On the stroke of half time came the games pivotal moment; Shakespeare produced a magnificent save going backwards, somehow scooping the ball out from under his own bar. The ball ran loose to the Chellaston no 5, and his shot looked ready to burst the net, but he only found the goalpost. Had this gone in, it could have been a whole different ball game. It was the Tigers then, who went into the break, in the ascendancy.
The Tigers were the better side from start to finish in the second half; they doubled their advantage early on. Sharp’s dipping free kick smacked the underside of the bar, and after about the fifth attempt in a goal mouth scramble, it was Cantrill who poked the ball home for Newhall.
The Tigers third and decisive goal was an absolute gem. Taylor put Sharp away down the left, he skipped past a challenge before sending the ball cross field to Fantarrow, who met it perfectly on the half volley sending it flying into the top corner.
Chellaston pulled one back late on, the Tigers were caught flat footed as the right winger reacted first to a loose ball and had time to pick his spot.
It was an excellent performance from the Tigers. Going forward - Sharp, Roberts, Fantarrow and Cantrill were a constant threat; Taylor and Elks were assured at the back, and Shakespeare was superb in the Tigers goal.
Tigers star man…Jacob Fantarrow...class!
