The Jaguars played their second game of the Season, a bit like Man City the team were struck by illness and injuries so only had 7 players for the kick off. With the referee also struck down by illness Andy had to referee one half and the Chellaston asistant coach the other. The game started close with Zane and Lannis link up well creating some half chances and testing the Chellaston goalkeeper a few times. Matthew and Poppy were strong at the back and let very little past them in the early exchanges. Junior had a few nice touches upfront but was given very little time by the Chellaston defence to get shots on goal away. Thomas worked very hard down the wing putting in some tough challenges.Jacob who was nervous about being in goal made a couple of sturdy saves early on. Despite some bright early play unfortunately Chellaston scored an excellent goal from distance. Lannis continued to look threatening down the wing linking up well with Zane. Matthew and Poppy read the game well at the back limiting the Chellaston chances. Unfortunatley the bad luck with injury hit again with Thomas taking knock to the ankle and having to come off for treatment, in that time Chellaston scored a couple of goals due to the numerical advantage. The Jaguars continued to look bright and started creating chances having a string of corners. Eventually the pressure paid off with Zane seeing a shot intially saved rebounding out to Junior whos shot was blocked eventually the ball game back out to Zane who powered into the net to score the Jaguars first ever goal. As the half played out Thomas put a few good challenges in that nearly set Junior away, Jacob made an incredible treble save with the ball eventually being cleared by Matthew.
The end of the first half there were many positives and a pleasing performance so far from the Jaguars.
Second half started finely balanced with some great keepy up skills from Zane and Junior nearly creating some chances. Poppy put some tough tackles and nearly played a great though ball to Lannis which was blocked at the last minute by the Chellaston defence, however as the game drew on the lack of substitutes started to show as Newhall midfield of Zane, Lannis and Thomas had worked really hard but the legs were getting heavy. Unfortunately the Jaguars couldn't build on their first half performance and conceded a number of goals mainly in the last 10 minutes of the match.
All in all a positive performance from the team today, with likely some very tired legs and some good lesson learned and a couple of things to work on in training. Well done to the Jaguars.
Star of the Match was Jacob who his exact words in training were "I can't play in goal as I am not very good" making some outstanding saves and proving himself wrong.
