Welcome to first report of the new Season, after what seems a break that lasted forever the new season kicked off today but like the Premier League behind closed doors with a well contested match with Rocester. The game started finely balanced with both teams playing some nice football, the midfield of Raj, Lewis & Jenson playing some nice passing football between them linking up well with George up top. Josh and Jake started strongly at the back letting very few chances pass them, with Robert strong in goal when called upon. Both teams had a couple of half chances in the early exchanges but it was the Lions who struck first in the 9th minute a good bit of interplay between Jenson to Lewis who then set George through to slot in from the right hand side to make the score 1-0.
The half continued to be closely fought, Kaylon continued to make probing runs down the left side with Keiran playing some nice neat 1-2 football down the right hand side. Going into half time fitness began to tell a bit however between Jake, Josh, Raj and Robert continued to keep Rocester at bay.
Half time gave Newhall time to regroup and get the passing going again, Jake continued to battle well in the midfield alongside Jenson when after 26 minutes the ball broke to Josh who rifled in an effort from distance into the top corner (although he claimed after the game it was a cross). Rocester hit back with a fine strike of their own 3 mintues later to leave the tie poised for a good last 10 minutes. With the Rocester goal they grew in confidence but Robert made some sturdy saves to maintain the score and Lewis and Raj completing some excellent tackles to break up the play. Keiran and Kaylon continued to put in the miles on the wings helping support the defence.
With the game entering the final minutes George held off 2 opponent players to pass the ball through to Jenson who beat the final player and slotted the ball into the bottom corner with another excellent finish to complete the tie.
All in all a very good performance by the whole team today and an excellent start to the Season
