Eagles Bounce Back!

Newhall's eagles bounced back to second in the league after an entertaining game at Oversetts Arena against  pre-match second placed Wirksworth Colts!

Natalie Eley was unlucky in the first minute as Wirksworths keeper was quick off her line to collect the ball. Keeley Deery was next to test the keeper after a fine run down the left wing. On 6 minutes Rosie Collins broke down the right and fired her shot against the bar, the ball bounced back into the six yard box and Natalie was on hand to put the ball into the net. The same pair linked up again with Rosie taking players on down the right and crossing to Natalie who's shot was just over the bar. Rosie then forced the Wirksworth keeper into a good save to her left. On 10 minutes the eagles extended their lead, Natalie was involved playing in Emily Bridge who's shot from the edge of the box was unstoppable finding the top corner of the net. The eagles played some superb football and Keeley picked out Natalie's run and her shot went just wide with the Wirksworth keeper well out to close her down. Rosie found space down the right and crossed only to see Emily miss kick on six yards. Chloe Woodward, returning in goal, was quick off her line to close down the Wirksworth attack. Ella Walker was introduced to the game and her first effort was just wide of the post. Keeley tested the keeper with a fine shot and Mikaela Colebrook played in Rosie who saw her shot just over the bar.

HT 2-0

Wirksworth came out looking to get back into the game and Chloe held on to a great cross into the box. On 47 minutes Wirksworth got their goal, a good ball into the area saw Chloe out well but unable to hold onto the ball that fell nicely for the Wirksworth player to run onto and score. Chloe was soon called into action, quick off her line to thwart the Wirksworth attack. Chloe's next save was better, turning a good shot round her post and from the following corner Wirksworth fired over when they should have scored. Chloe showed superb reactions from a Wirksworth corner, the ball was fired into the six yard box and the striker hit the ball cleanly only to see Chloe dive and make the save of the game, fantastic save! This seemed to spur the eagles on and Mikaela saw her long shot well saved. Rosie fired in from the edge of the box and Ella followed in only to see her shot just wide of the post.

FT 2-1

Squad - Chloe Woodward, Kiera Dyche, Courtney Mcintosh, Charlotte Catlin, Rosie Collins, Mikaela Colebrook, Keeley Deery, Emily Bridge, Natalie Eley, Jodie Oughton, Whitney Garner, Melita Astle, Chloe Greenfield, Ella Walker, Chloe Johnston.

Player of the match -  Chloe Woodward, match winning saves. A difficult one this week,  first half Rosie and Keeley superb down the wings, Mikaela solid in midfield, Natalie and Emily linking up well. Second half Courtney, Whitney and Chloe defending well but Chloe Woodward just nicking it making the saves to win us the match!

A game of two halves, first half all eagles with chances created and we should have been four up at half time. Second half saw some superb battling and defending with Chloe excellent in goal and the defence holding firm! Superb battling attitude through the team working well for each other and getting the win we deserved!
