Eagles Unbeaten Run Comes to an End!

The Eagles four match unbeaten run came to an end against the league leaders Chellaston FC.

The eagles began very brightly with Mikaela Colebrook firing our first shot at the keeper. Keeley Deery, our keeper for the day as Chloe Woodward was on holiday, was quick off her line to halt the Chellaston attack. A good long throw from Kiera Dyche then saw Emily Bridge shoot just wide of the goal. Keeley was soon in action as the game went from end to end, pushing a well struck shot round the upright. On 9 minutes the eagles took the lead, a defence splitting pass from Kiera picked out the run of Natalie Eley who slotted her shot past the out rushing Chellaston keeper holding off two Chellaston defenders. On 12 minutes Chellaston equalised, the Chellaston midfielder picked up the ball on the left and drifted inside unchallenged and fired in from the edge of the area. Both teams played some fine football and battled well cancelling each other out until on 25 minutes when the Chellaston player ran down the right and her cross come shot looped over the unlucky Keeley.

HT 1-2

Chellaston started the second half strongly and Keeley was forced into another good save and then she watched a shot go just wide of the post after some fine Chellaston build up play. Rosie Collins saw her effort fly just over after a good run down the right and a superb ball into the box from Jodie Oughton saw Chellastons keeper fumble but the eagles couldn't take advantage with Chellastons defenders able to clear. Chellaston made it 3 -1 on 57 minutes after another unchallenged run and shot went past Keeley. Keeley produced a fine save pushing the ball over as it was heading for the top corner and then Emily forced Chellastons keeper into the save of the game, a flick from the outside of the boot on the six yard box saw her dive to her right pushing the ball round the post. On 69 minutes Chellaston increased their lead, Keeley looked to have ball in both hands from a corner but the Chellaston player headed in. On 70 minutes Chellaston showed their class, some great play from midfield saw a fine finish giving Keeley no chance. The eagles didn't give up and Natalie forced the keeper into a good save after a strong run and a similar move saw Natalie again thwarted by the keeper. On 80 minutes the Chellaston player found time in the box to shot past Keeley and on 81 minutes Chellaston made it 7 after a well taken free kick found the head of the unmarked player.

FT 1-7

Squad - Keeley Deery, Kiera Dyche, Courtney Mcintosh, Charlotte Catlin, Rosie Collins, Mikaela Colebrook, Melita Astle, Emily Bridge, Natalie Eley, Jodie Oughton, Chloe Johnston, Whitney Garner, Ella Walker, Chloe Greenfield.

Player of the Match - Keeley Deery, a fine game from our stand in keeper against a very good Chellaston side who have scored 22 against Sherwin and 17 past Duffield.

After looking forward to this game for so long the girls did not disappoint, from the off they pushed a Chellaston team that have not lost a game for at least two seasons and have won our league for the last four years!

At times we gave Chellaston too much respect and time on the ball allowing them to play at their leisure but this can be improved. Some superb battling performances around the pitch and all the girls kept battling till the end.

With Wirksworth leap frogging us into second place our home game against then next week should be interesting as the girls look to reclaim second spot in the league.

Thanks to all our superb support on the day and for the positive comments on the girls performance.

We will be back!!!!
