Triumphant Tigers hit high 5 over 'the Hill' to make the quarters.

Todays game saw the Tigers drawn in the second round of the cup against Winshill Green. Our only previous game Vs them had been a pre-season friendly to forget at the beginning of the 2011/12 season that had seen the Tigers on the wrong end of a 6-3 scoreline. But this team has come a long way since then. So with this in mind and an ex Tiger in their ranks and the fact that bragging rights were at stake for a number of players come Monday morning it was sure to be a tense affair.

Starting line up: Lewis (GK), Josh (RB), Mia (CB), Callum (LB), Tom (DM), Dom (RM), Alex (AM), Adam (LM), Brett (CF), Subs: Louis, Thomas and Ben.

With all the hype, Tigers started slowly, struggling to get a hold of the ball and carve out any decent chances. It was Winshill that forced much of the early play but couldn't make the possession count as their shots went wide or were saved easilly by Lewis. It was Tigers however that broke the deadlock with around 8 minutes gone. The ball found itself out to Dom on the right hand side, he powered forward and hit a hard low shot to the front post, the keeper got down well but could not hold it as it squirmed in at the near post. 1-0.

This spurred Tigers into action and they looked like the side that would take that on and indeed they did. It was Dom again that did the damage to make the score 2-0 with just 10 minutes on the clock.

Tigers now looked awake and hungry for more, but Tigers third goal came somewhat out the blue. Alex in an advanced position on the edge of the box to the left. A neat turn and first time effort hard and low to the far post gave the Winshill keeper no chance and saw Tigers 3-0 with only 15 minutes on the clock.

Winshill continued to battle and did carve out chances as the half wore on but Lewis in goal made some fantastic saves to keep them at bay. This coupled with some solid defending from the back three, notably Callum who had a very good game today.

Half Time. Tigers 3 - 0 Winshill

Tigers were reminded at half time that Winshill would come out fighting second half and not to treat the game as already won.

The opening exchanges of the second half were tight and scrappy, very little caught the eye early on. Tigers conceeded with around ten minutes of the second half gone, a scrappy goalmouth scramble that Tigers couldn't get clear saw a ball poked through that Josh did well to get a foot on but could not stear it clear. 3-1.

Tigers then raised their game again and battled hard in the middle of the park. Some nice easy football from Tom carving open the Winshill midfield on more than one occassion. Louis Buck battling hard in the middle to break things up too. Mia solid in the middle keeping the Winshill chances to a minimum and forcing the ex Tiger to shoot at range too often and always wide.

Tigers put the game out of reach midway through the half with Alex slotting one home with his left foot to put Tigers 4-1.

Several changes rolling on and off kept Tigers fresh and hungry and they continued to work hard. Tigers rounded off their scoring towards the end, this time a goalmouth scramble in the Winshill box wasn't cleared and it was Brett that slammed it home to score his first league goal for the club and Tigers fifth. 5-1.

Winshill did manage to pull another goal back before the end when there tricky midfielder broke and managed to beat Lewis to make it 5-2, but this was more of a consolation than any threat on Tigers victory.

Full Time: Tigers 5 - 2 Winshill Green.

Not the best performance we have seen from the Tigers this season but some well taken goals and battling saw us through to the Quarter finals of the cup for the first time in this teams history.

Player of the match today went to Brett. He was Brought off half way through the first half and some words of advice were given. On his return at the start of the second half it was evident he had listened as his all round play improved greatly and he worked the front line well. Add to this his first goal in the blue and white. Well done Brett.

Blackout winner: Tony Connor.
