Eagles into Semi Final Of League Cup

Newhall FC Eagles progressed into to the semi finals of the U16's League Cup with a victory over Sherwin FC at Alvaston Park.

The Eagles made a superb start with birthday girl Mikeala Colebrook finding space just outside the area and firing an unstoppable shot into the net on 3 minutes. The Eagles extended their lead on 8 minutes with Natalie Eley finding Emily Bridge with a great pass and Emily giving the keeper no chance with a great finish. Natalie next got free but fired at the keeper and Emily finding space dragged her shot wide of the post. On 17 minutes Emily and Natalie linked up well, this time Emily setting up Natalie to finish confidently into the bottom corner. Keeley Deery then got in on the act forcing the Sherwin keeper into a good save to her left. Kiera Dyche pushed forward from defence and laid on a great ball for Natalie to run onto but the keeper saved well. On 28 minutes Emily broke clear and fired past the keeper with a fantastic strike. Natalie, on 30 minutes, picked up a poor goal kick running the ball back into the area and firing past the stranded keeper. On 35 minutes Sherwin pulled a goal back after a lack of communication between defence and keeper allowing the Sherwin player in to finish. Rosie Collins went back on the attack seeing her effort cleared after a fine save.

HT 5-1

Sherwin came out fighting and on 42 minutes got their second after a failed clearance on the edge of the area dropped nicely for the Sherwin player to run in and fire past the diving Chloe Woodward. From our next attack, on 43 minutes, the ball was played into Melita Astle and her superb shot flew past Sherwins keeper. Sherwin continued to push and Chloe saved smartly pushing the ball over the bar and she watched a fine curled effort just whistle past her post. Melita was moved up front and forced the keeper into a good save, she then produced a better save from Keely whose shot was pushed round the post. On 65 minutes Rosie got on the score sheet after Natalie played in a superb pass to feet and Rosie fired into the top corner. Kiera had now found her passing range playing in the perfect pass to Melita on 67 minutes and Melita finishing well. Melita was unlucky not to get her third with a cracking effort hitting the post and Natalie deserved a goal after picking up the ball from the edge of our area and running the length of the pitch playing a one, two with Chloe Johnston on the edge of the Sherwin area only to see her shot just over, superb play! Melita was not to be denied her hat trick and on 76 minutes she fired in from the edge of the box after a fine run.
