Something had to give in the U14s Division 1 clash between Tigers and Unity as both teams came into the match with 100%records .

A somewhat depleted Tigers with 4 players absent today and 2 of the starting 11 carrying injuries into the game .

Tigers started the brighter with some early efforts on goal kicking down the slope . A change of formation meant the lads set up as 4-5-1 to try and nullify Unitys attacking prowess . It seemed noone  had told the lads this and they went at Unity in a really positive manner pegging last years Cup winners back . HarryL slotted into the centre of midfield with Owen and Zak alongside him and they were first to almost every ball in the early stages . Sam and Dylan occupied the wide positions though were asked to tuck in whenever possible . Up front Aarons usual tireless running gave te Unity defence little respite . After 14 minutes Tigers took the lead when a fairly straightforward gather for the Unity keeper evaded him and Aaron was quick to poke the ball home  1-0 .

This spurred the visitors into action and the remainder of the second half was a much more even affair though clear cut chances were few and far between . Jacks handling and gathering in goal was excellent even after he took a couple of knocks from slightly late challenges . 20 minutes in and Sam who'd given his all was replaced by Connor who went up front with Aaron reverting to left side .

HT 1-0

Tigers had to have a little reshuffle at half time with Aaron having taken a heavy knock to his back and Sam unable to take the field again the coaches turned to goalkeeper  Lewis and asked him if he would play left side of midfield .

3 minutes into the 2nd half and Tigers lead was wiped out . A lovely corner ( one of many was sent into the box and well punched clear by Jack but the Unity centre half who had come up for the corner swivelled and fired the ball home from 15 yards - a really good finish from the Unity player . 1-1

Wasnt sure how the lads would react now as we had given them our Dunkirk speeches at half time only to see the lead gone so quickly . We need not have worried as they rolled up their sleeves and dug in against it has to be said a  physical Unity team  . The lads met the challenge well though there was yet another late challenge on Jack culminating in a bruised cheekbone this time . HarryL was trying to be everywhere as Tigers tried not to sit back as the pressure built on them . Connor tried to close down the Unity defenders and Owens link play and aerial dominance was excellent . With 15 minutes to go HarryL burst forward and spotting the keeper off the line clipped it over him from 35-40 yards - a quality goal . 2-1

Unity now pressed forward with some desperation and mounted several attacks with one searing drive crashing against the bar . Tigers held and looked comfortable despite the posession being largely in Unitys favour . Just as we entered injury time a clever ball down the right and a good cross saw the lively Unity No7 bundle the ball home  2-2 . There was still time for a few nerve jangling moments but the final whistle went .

FT Tigers 2 Unity 2

Excellent effort from the Tigers today every single one of them played their hearts out . As was said to them after the match its not always possible to play football in the manner you would like to - sometimes you have to grit your teeth , battle and grind out a result which they did today .

Special mention for the back 4 of Niall , Tom , HarryA and Kieran  - thought you were awesome and never shirked a tackle despite all the pushing and shoving - and well done Lewis on your outfield debut .

Well done to the U14 Tigers, it must have been a great game as I was struggling to concentrate on our game on the next pitch for the noise from the crowd, it seemed like a very eventful game from what I kept hearing!!
