The Tigers Roar to Victory in a 7 Goal Thriller.

On a beautiful sunny autumnal morning at Shoball, the Tigers were up against a strong Rolleston team. In the first ten minutes Newhall couldn’t get a grip on the game and Rolleston looked more likely to score. However, Lewis was commanding his box well by gathering the long balls that Rolleston were relying on. Another long ball resulted in Rolleston’s first goal by beating the off-side trap and slotting past Lewis into the net. The Tigers were not disheartened by this, merely spurred on to make some great break-up play in the middle, which enabled them to get back into the game. Dom delivered a great ball into Alex’s path that then made room to score with a crisp shot into the back of  Rolleston’s net.  Great play continued as Louis’ shot at the goal squirmed under the keeper who managed to gather the ball right on the line. Fortunately by pressing harder, the Tigers’ efforts paid off when Alex bustled his way into the box and half volleyed the ball into the top right corner of the net.

Straight from the kick-off Newhall were caught napping when Rolleston’s striker burst straight back into the Tiger’s box and equalised. There were a few more shots made by both teams before half time, which were handled very well by the keepers.

Half Time 2-2.

The Tigers came out all fired up looking for a third goal after a pep talk from Shaun. Thomas, Mia and Travis continued working well in defence by playing the off-side trap and Lewis was on hand to clean up when it was beaten. Dom produced some great heading and clearing in midfield and worked hard which enabled Alex to charge clear and score his first hat-trick of the season. Throughout the game Brett, Tom, Harry, Josh, Adam and Ben all battled hard and once again Alex raced through to poke a goal into the left corner of the net.

It was now time for the Tigers to drop back and protect their lead with some good tackles and clearances. This held Rolleston until the last five minutes when a lone striker shot past Lewis to score. Some final pressure from Rolleston who were looking for the equaliser, but the Tigers stood firm to take the victory.

Final score 4-3.

A great team effort by the Tigers today, unfortunately the Manager was at home poorly and missed the game – get well soon Chris.

The Player of the Match as chosen by Laurie went to Alex, for four well taken goals.

Blackout winner – Laurie Hill (again!!!).

Thanks for all your support.

Well done to the Under 12's with Lewis in goal you always have a chance but beating Rolleston at any of their levels is good to see!
