U10 Tigers get knocked out of Cup but put up a brave fight
Our first round cup match against Riverside athletic black was going to be a struggle with two of our players having left during the week and a third away on holiday. Riverside are also a division above us so the odds were stacked against us.
However following our previous 3 defeats which did not show the best of our performances (hence no recent match reports) and a frank explanation of where the team have been going wrong I firmly believe the team felt they had to give it their all at this match.
What a start! Within the first minute we were one nil up, with Ben Wells scoring his first goal of the game on our first attack. The boys managed to keep their cool and continued with the pressure from Riverside and we kept on pushing but soon Riverside equalised. From then on during the first half the tigers battled strongly but could not defend as well as required. The end of the first half finished at 4-1 to Riverside. A change to the team set up for the second half added to our mid field hoping that we could just go for it and push for more goals. The boys indeed did continue to push and we soon scored a second goal through some excellent passing of which saw Ben Wells claimed his second. Some great passing and ball control showed we still had it in us. Unfortunately Riverside also kept pushing and scored two more goals but not before Ben Wells scored his hat trick! Final score 7-3. This report and the final score do not do the effort put in by the team justice. Man of the match went to Ben Wells. All the players played better than previously and hopefully this will continue in the rest of our season. Well done!
