An early morning kick off in blustery conditions saw Newhall face Abbots Bromley in the first round of the cup.

Starting line up: Lewis (GK), Josh (RB), Mia (CB), Callum (LB), Tom (DM), Alex (AM), Harry (RM), Adam (LM), Dominic (CF). Subs: Ben, Louis, Travis, Brett and Thomas. Mia – Captain 1st half, Alex Captain 2nd half.

This was a typical cup match with end-to-end action. Abbots Bromley attacked first with Lewis pulling off a double save!

Newhall replied with a surging run by Alex and the keeper did well to save. Newhall had a couple of corners but could not convert any clear-cut chances. Half way through the first half both Harry and Tom both picked up knocks and were replaced by Thomas and Travis. It was Abbots Bromley who scored first on a breakaway run down the right wing shooting over the top of Lewis in the top left corner.

This goal seemed to spur Newhall into action and soon afterwards Alex once again powered his way through the defence to lob it over the onrushing keeper to make it 1-1.

Half time 1-1

Tom playing in the lone attackers role, Brett on the left, Ben on the right and Louis slotting in the middle.

Second half and Tigers came out strong and determined. Newhall started off the brightest and were awarded a penalty after 5 minutes after the defence struggled to cope with the pace and strength of Alex. He stepped up and smashed it against the left hand post.
Further attacks by Newhall produced some excellent passing moves between Tom Brett and Alex and we were rewarded with another goal. An excellent pass by Brett picked out Alex who turned and shot in the bottom right hand corner to make it Tigers 2- Bromley 1. Newhall had to be cautious in defence after some counter attacks by Abbots Bromley but were again expertly marshalled by the superb Mia and some fine saves by Lewis.

Late in the second half Dominic came on and was desperate to get on the score sheet. His determination paid off when he took a long-range effort which the Bromley keeper couldn’t hold onto making it 3-1 to Newhall.

Abbots Bromley replied straight away with an attack that produced a fine shot that Lewis got both hands to but could not prevent it going into the net.
A nervous finish ensued with Abbots Bromley being awarded a couple of free kicks around the penalty box, which Newhall managed to defend well.

Full time Newhall Tigers 3 - 2 Abbots Bromley.

A fantastic cup match – well done Tigers.

Player of the match award today chosen by Martin and Martin (M & M’s) went to Lewis for some fantastic saves, great kicking and commanding his box.

A massive thank-you to all the parents for buying the drinks, cakes and having a go on the blackout.

Well done Tigers ! Long may your cup run continue. Congratulations to Lewis for man of the match, we were lucky enough to have Lewis in our team last season on Sundays so I can imagine the quality of the saves made, a excellent shot stopper well done mate.

Massive well done to the Tigers. Sadly I couldn't make todays game but was kept updated throughout the game. Not only a great result but also the performance from all the players was again fantastic as it has been so far this season.

Well done to Lewis for his player of the match, rightly deserved I hear too! And at the other end, Alex just cant stop scoring with 8 in 4 games. But it isn't just about individuals, it is about the team as a whole and they have all made telling contributions to each and every game. :-).

Thanks again to the coffee 'N' cake ladies, these are going down a storm!

Who won the blackout this week???

Thanks to Shaun and Catherine for the match report.
