The Rams can now concentrate on the League for the 2015-16 season after bowing out of this season's Cup following defeat to Tutbury Tigers.
It was another tough game against a side who, last season, were playing in Division One.
The Rams welcomed Euan into the squad after impressing in training over the last couple of weeks and he slotted into the central midfield role alongside Rhys allowing skipper Mitchell to push further forwards.
The decision to push Mitchell into a more advanced role certainly paid early dividends as Tutbury were caught cold from an early throw in. Mitchell L. launched the ball into the penalty area and when the ball dropped loose the captain was there to thump a great shot into the net for the team's first goal of the season.
Tutbury had the Oversetts slope in their favour in the first half and they started to make that count for them with some balls over the top that ultimately saw them turn the game around and establish a 3-1 lead. The goals came in something of a flurry but Newhall were not taking it lying down and from the kick off straight after the third, Mitchell spotted the keeper off his line and an inch perfect shot dropped over the head of the Tutbury keeper and got it back to 3-2.
It was something of a shock for Tutbury who dusted themselves down and despite some excellent goalkeeping from Lewis some strong running down their right opened up the Rams defence allowing their number 5 to bag a brace of goals before and another couple of goals followed, the last as the Tutbury striker reacted quickest to another good stop from Lewis to poke home the rebound.
Half time Rams 2-7 Tutbury
With some encouraging words at half time the Rams came out second half and certainly fought hard as the extremely warm conditions started to take their toll.
Tutbury extended their lead by another goal early in the second half but the Rams did not let their heads go down and continued to battle all over the pitch to get something more from the game.
The referee pointed to the spot late on, awarding Tutbury a penalty after a challenge just inside the area was deemed a little too strong on the Tutbury player. Despite Lewis getting hands to the penalty the power on the shot from the Tutbury player was just enough to see it go in.
Please keep supporting the players. We have a good group with a great spirit amongst them and if we remain positive and encourage them we will see improvement which is our aim and hope for all of the team.
Thanks to Ryan for running the line today and to Tony for co-ordinating the black-out. The winning team was Sheffield Wednesday (picked by Zoe)
