Eagles Just Nick It!
The Eagles traveled to the beautiful Eyes Meadow to take on a Duffield side that had conceded 15 goals last week!
Jodie Oughton set the tone with an early shot and Rosie Collins down the right then broke to set up Mikeala Colebrook whose shot was saved by the keeper. Natalie Eley then fired across goal and then she was played in superbly by Mikeala but her effort trickled just wide with the keeper beat. Jodie was next to shoot wide and Mikeala tried a long range effort but found the keeper well placed to save. The keeper then tipped over a great effort from Natalie after a fine solo run and she denied Keely Deery and Ella Walker with great saves. Duffield then broke and Courtney McIntosh produced a superbly timed tackle after the Duffield player had broke clear. Courtney made two more important interceptions before the Eagles pushed back up the pitch and Keely's fine shot was saved, Emily Bridge then found space on the edge of the box to turn but the keeper again saved well!
The Eagles began the second half pushing for that first goal with Natalie's shot deflected wide with the keeper beat and then Chloe Woodward in the Newhall goal was called into action saving a dipping shot and then saving well to her right from a good Duffield strike. With pressure mounting on the Duffield goal an Eagles corner was saved and Courtneys follow up header was just over the bar. Ella forced the keeper into another fine save and Natalie headed at the keeper and then shot wide. The break through came on 62 minutes after a scramble in the six yard box, Duffields keeper fumbled with Ella putting her under pressure and unable to hold onto the ball Natalie was on hand to finish. The relief from the crowd came out in the cheers for the goal!!
It was unlucky for the keeper as she played so well. She was soon back in action saving well at Jodies feet.
Duffield got a free kick with the minutes ticking away but Chloe saved well and Rosie should have extended the lead when she shot wide and Mikealas final effort was just wide of the post.
Squad - Chloe Woodward, Kiera Dyche, Courtney Mcintosh(capt), Chloe Greenfield, Rosie Collins, Mikeala Colebrook, Keely Deery, Jodie Oughton, Natalie Eley, Whitney Garner, Melita Astle, Chloe Johnston, Charlotte Catlin, Ella Walker, Emily Bridge.
Player of the Match - Mikeala Colebrook, excellent in midfield setting up chances, shooting and breaking up the Duffield attack.
Well done girls!!
With Duffields keeper in fine form we kept going until we got what we deserved. I don't think I've seen so many chances in game and we only got one goal!
With some superb defending we are the only team in the league not to have conceded a goal, fantastic!!!
Thanks to the traveling support, superb yet again!
