Match report from Ian -

Too engrossed in the game to remember too much but here goes!

Starting line-up: Lewis; Callum, Mitchell S, Mia, Josh; Tom, Rhys; Ben, Brad, Ksha; Harry. Subs: Mitchell L, Thomas, Adam.

With the wind at their backs Hilton started well and had the Rams defending for the opening five minutes but it was Newhall who took the lead when Harry managed to turn and run at the Hilton defence. His power and pace caused them problems and with Brad supporting him the opening goal came when Harry saw an effort blocked but Brad following up well, pounced on the loose ball to steer it home.

Newhall picked up their game and were unfortunate top be pegged back when a Hilton player tried to launch the ball into the box from the right wing there was more than an element of luck as the ball sailed over Lewis with the benefit of the wind to land in the far corner. It was harsh on the Rams but they battled back and Harry’s constant running at the defence, supported by Brad and with good service from the wings from Ksha and Ben meant that Newhall had the better chances to take the lead before the break with the Hilton goal leading a bit of a charmed life at times, although Lewis had to rush from his goal to force a Hilton striker to fire wide when clean through.

Half-time Newhall Rams 1-1 Hilton Orange

Newhall just needed to keep working as they had done in the first half and with the help of the conditions in the second period. The Rams found themselves behind when the referee seemed to miss a foul on Brad on the edge of the area, deciding instead to penalise Brad as he battled back. Lewis was given no chance with the resulting penalty.

Lewis did well to deny Hilton a third as the ball was floated in, grabbing the ball before it crossed the line despite appeals from Hilton.

Undeterred Newhall fought back and when they were given a free kick about thirty yards out Brad’s effort forced the keeper to mishandle underneath his crossbar and amidst a scramble inside the six yard box Harry turned the ball home.

Josh came back on for the final fifteen minutes and was instrumental in Newhall ‘s third making a burst through only to be bundled over just inside the box to give Newhall a penalty. Harry kept it nice and low to find the corner and put Newhall 3-2 up inside the final ten minutes.

Hilton launched the ball forwards in search of an equaliser and a break on the right hand side of Newhall’s box eventually saw the ball worked to the opposite side where an unmarked Hilton player was able to find the opposite bottom corner for an equaliser.

The goal came with only five minutes left and neither side could find a winner. In the end it was a hard fought and deserved point against a side who had beaten Newhall comfortably a few weeks earlier.

Final score: Newhall Rams 3-3 Hilton Orange

Great result today for the Rams. Thanks to Ian for taking the team today and to Paul for running the line.
