Date filed: 12 Oct 2014
Played: 12th October 2014
Harry Halts the Horses, as the Rams trot on to victory.
Starting line up: Lewis (GK), Callum (RB), Mia (LB), Thomas and Brad (CB), Tom and Rhys (DM), Charlie (AM), Ksha (LW), Ben (RW), Harry (Att). Subs: Adam,Kian,Mitchell.
Hilton started the game but it was the Rams who started brightly on what was a cold and foggy Autumn morning at the Mease.
Some good football from both sides early in the game. Ben working the right flank well and Charlie in support of Harry trying to find that killer pass to split the Hilton defence.
It took 15 minutes for the deadlock to be broken. A brilliant long diagonal ball by Mia from the left side split the Horses defence and Harry galloped away and into the box, one on one with the keeper Harry sent him the wrong way and Rams went 1-0 up.
Rams continued to battle well and played some good passing football. At times the defence got caught and at one point just stood and watched as the Hilton attacker chased down what was thought to be a dead ball, only for him to get to it, pull it back to the centre spot for what should have been the equaliser. However, Lewis had different ideas and made a fantastic diving save low to his right to push it wide. A wake up call for the Rams.
Half time: Hilton 0 - 1 Rams.
Adam came on the left for the second half and other changes ensued during the match to give everyone a chance of meaningful matchtime.
With 9 minutes of the second half gone Rams extended their lead. Harry not giving up in the box and he got his reward as he stole the ball and poked it agonisingly wide of the keeper and it crawled over the line. 2 - 0 Rams.
Ksha had a good game today, despite being one of the smallest on the pitch she won her fair share of headers. Tom was the engine in the centre of the park and did the dirty work when required and was lucky not to find himslef in the Ref's notebook for one too many fouls.
The back four as a unit, Call, Mia, Thomas and Brad are settled now. Call is doing a great job at RB. playing the game so simply and defending solidly.
As a unit though they need to learn to get out once the ball is clear especially when the opposition are slow to get back themsleves. That said, Brad has been a real plus for us in the centre of defence, his confidence, skill and ability to get back with pace when needed are what we need at times and with Thomas along side him, a player that has improved greatly already this season.
Rams rode their luck however as the game wore on. Horses had two corners, both of which we struggled to defend against. Only the woodwork saved us on both occasions with them hitting first the bar then later the post. We also rode our luck with Hilton breaking our back line, but again Lewis was outstanding, getting out to the attacker perfectly every time to prevent what should have been opposition goals.
With 5 minutes to go, Brad swopped with Harry up front. Harry dropped to centre back but unfortuatley was caught the wrong side as Hilton broke in to the area and the Ref rightly awarded a penalty with 3 minutes to go. This was hammered home. 1 - 2.
A nervy end to the game for the last 2 minutes, but Rams Reigned supreme and came Cantoring away with the win.
Full time: Hilton 1 - 2 Rams.
A very good game of football today with two teams that wanted to pass. Rams just shaded it though in a deserved win.
