Newhall showed their strength and ability in this one sided affair at Moira and had a reasonable workout ahead of the season's opener on Sunday morning at their home of Eureka Park. Newhall had a better selection available for tonights friendly with the return of several players from holiday absence, but were still 2 short of their full squad.

They took it fairly easy tonight to overcome their opponents, and when they needed to flext their defensive strengths they did so with relative ease, and behind the defence another superb display when called upon from Byron in goal, but all in all only 2 real attempts throughout the hour long game came for their opponents, with only one strike on target throughout.

Newhall on the other hand had numerous chances in the first half but went in just 2-0 ahead thanks to 2 goals well worked at either end of the first half, they went for a changed formation with 3 at the back throughout with this allowing many surging runs from the wings which was where their best play came from throughout the game.

When Newhall emerged for the second half you could sense that they were going to push on and crush the opposition which they did with several well worked goals, and to be fair to their opponents they kept going but Newhall could have easily finished in double figures had they took their chances and the Marlborough keeper had not been on top form.

Phil's summary at the end was a simple one, if Newhall continue to play to their strengths and keep their football simple they should enjoy a good season ahead, and so to the season ahead we look with Newhall having a reasonable chance to shine this time out with a nucleus of long serving players being added to by some quality recruits in the summer, they have a balanced squad with everyone gelling together very quickly.

Next Game: Season Opener versus Winshill Green (H) at Eureka Park 10.30 kick off, we look forward to seeing you all there to support the lads.
