Eagles Soar To Victory!!

The Newhall FC Eagles began their 2012/13 campaign against Sherwin FC at the sun drenched Oversetts Stadium.

With five new faces added to the squad all the girls were eager to get started and show us what they could do and they certainly delivered!

From the kick off the Eagles pushed forward and Emily Bridge was unlucky not to open the scoring when played in after good work down the right by Natalie Eley. Mikeala Colebrook then saw a great lob just wide from her midfield position. Ella Walker shot wide after superb running down the right from Rosie Collins and Emily saw her next effort the wrong side of the post. Sherwins keeper produced a fine save pushing a great shot from Rosie over the bar and then another smart stop denying Natalie from close range and Rosie's follow up was blocked by some excellent defending. On 20 minutes Sherwins resolve was broken after Keely Deery picked up the ball on the left and placed her shot into the far top corner of the net, what a goal and well worth the wait! The Eagles kept up the attack and on 29 minutes Natalie finished superbly after a fine run from Emily. Three minutes later Rosie broke down the right and placed her shot into the bottom corner. The pressure from the Eagles was superb and Jodie Oughton fired over from a well taken corner and Ella forced the Sherwin keeper into another good save but she couldn't stop Rosie's second ,on 39 minutes, squeezing inside the near post from close range. Mikeala fired in just before the break with a great shot that was well saved.

HT 4-0

The Eagles had a change of personnel at half time and the girls continued in the same way. On 45 minutes Ella broke and hit an unstoppable shot past the keeper. Melita Astle saw her effort saved by the keeper before Sherwin tested the Newhall defence and forced Chloe Woodward into three great saves, the best at the feet of the Sherwin player when she looked destined to score. Emily rattled the bar with a well taken free kick that was awarded by referee Harry Cantrill, who was superb. With 70 minutes played Chloe Johnston tapped in after a scramble in the box and on 77 minutes she was in the right place after the ball came off the bar to knock the ball home with Tia Hylton and Emily ready to pounce. Sherwin pushed till the end and Chloe saved brilliantly to her right to keep a clean sheet.

Player of the Match - A tough decision with Mikeala Colebrook solid in midfield, Rosie unstoppable down the right and a great performance all round  from the girls but Natalie Eley looked class from the off.
