Newhall started their run of friendlies with a comfortable win against a weakened Belvedere due to absentees and injuries, but it gave Newhall the chance to stretch their muscles a little bit further as they build towards the new season kick off in early September.

A big welcome to Aaron, Byron, Brad and Drew who have joined in a busy summer period of players moving into the squad, and also a welcome back to James who returns after a season with Ashby and Jake who played for us at under 8's level. The purpose of todays friendly was to get everyone involved, try different formations and build on fitness levels with an extra 10 minutes game time to be played this season.

Lots of Newhall players got on the scoresheet today, and credit goes to the Belvedere management and players for sticking it out in what was a tough 80 minutes with no subs and only 10 outfield players in thefinal quarter, but Newhall had done the damage in the first 2 quarters of the game in fairness when they were against 11 players, the play was good all round and there are a lot more positives than negatives to take into the next friendly against Rolleston next Thursday evening,

Newhall certainly had their shooting boots in order today and could have had many more had they not been denied by the woodwork and some decent saves, it was pretty much one way traffic with the Newhall defence virtually mopping everything that came at them with Byron in sparkling form in goal whenBelvedere did break through the backline.

It's a decent start to take forward into the next 2 friendlies before the season gets underway.

Phil rounded off the post match debate by reminding all the players that there will be times when players have to sit games out when fit, with 16 good squad players to choose from the intention is to get every Newhall player involved and pick the team relevant to the opposition and formation, it's all about a team effort this season not individual players or game time.

Next Game Thursday 21st evening kick off away versus Rolleston U 15's.

Extremely pleasing performance and although it was a convincing win i thought we played it with a good attitude and showed respect for a good team.

Thursdays friendly has now been cancelled unfortunatley.
