Newhall could have felt a little sorry for themselves after last week’s opener where they should have already had points on the board, but they put that right this week against a team with a bit of a point to prove after finishing runners up to Newhall last season.

Newhall completely dominated from start to finish and realistically without being too unfair on Measham, it should have been double the final score with the amount of chances they created against a woeful Measham defence void of any ideas on how to stop the mauling they received. Phil made it clear that Measham would want to avenge losing out on the title last season and Newhall responded right from the kick off and should have found themselves 1-0 up after great play on the wing by McKlane found Connor in the box but his header flew high and wide. Then Luke got past a few challenges sweeping across the 6 yard line but his effort was blocked and cleared, Newhall were dominant. Next it was James who went close after some great play in midfield but fired wide, it looked like Newhall’s shooting boots were in the changing room. However after a good save from Lewis that earned a corner which Harry overhead kicked wide, the ball got chased down from the restart and found Connor (15) able to muscle his way past the defender and keeper to put the ball in a empty net.

We had started to wonder whether it wasn’t going to be Newhall’s day but the 32 supporters Newhall had watching needn’t of worried as they took a 2-0 advantage on 24 when Squid got his timing right just outside the box and gave the keeper no chance as his long range effort smashed the roof of the net, a great strike on target at last! Newhall started to relax into the game now and maybe this 2 goal cushion was what they needed, numerous chances were being created from the wings with Luke and McKlane, Lewis and James also chipping in with some good strikes on goal and it only took them 6 more minutes to find the 3rd when Ben who had come on for Harry got away from the defence to comfortably finish in the corner.

Measham were given a little more space towards the end of the half and tried a couple of long range efforts themselves neither of which troubled Kier in goal who watched them both sail over the bar, an easy half for Kier who had next to nothing to do.

Half Time: Measham 0 Newhall 3

Newhall changed the team round for the second half with Dilraj, Adam, Liam and Sean coming on for Tyler, Josh, McKlane and Luke respectively, it began with a little more effort from Measham passing the ball around as we know they can and making some headway into Newhall’s half with a couple of speculative efforts that Kier easily gathered. Newhall then pressed the accelerator pedal again and hit Measham with some great passage of play that saw Newhall put the game to bed in a blistering 4 minute spell and quash any hope Measham thought they might have in getting back into the game. First Sean broke down the right and thumped a great low cross at pace towards goal which the goalkeeper misread the pace of and let it through his body for the 4th (39), Ben was upended in the area and James (41) converted brilliantly to his left making it 5-0, and then Connor rounded the keeper to make it 6-0 on 43, it completely knocked the stuffing out of Measham but in fairness to Newhall the score line reflected their dominance.

Measham had another couple of efforts on goal which both went over the bar but Newhall were still creating chances and could have extended their lead further, such was their degree of control over the middle of the park with Lewis and James in superb form. Sean went on another run down the right his cross was deep to the far post with Josh just failing to get enough on his header and it was cleared off the line, then Josh had an opportunity to get on the score sheet after being tripped in the box, but he tried to place his spot kick which the goalkeeper read well and saved. Measham were tiring which was no surprise as we were on a bigger pitch than normal, but probably more so because of the run around Newhall had given them for 60 minutes, and Newhall finished them off with a further 3 goals in the last 10 minutes.

The first gave Connor (60) his hat-trick which was thoroughly deserved after the high tempo of running at the defence he kept up throughout the game, and McKlane also completed his hat-trick with goals in the 68th and 69th minutes to complete the rout.

Final Score: Measham 0 Newhall 9.

Dave and Phil summarised by singling out 3 specific players James, McKlane and Lewis as being in the mix for man of the match, deciding to give it to James for his running and vision with some of his playmaking today, but they were pleased with the whole team effort both on and off the ball today, reminding all the players how they are really gelling together now as a complete unit as in all 16 players, not just those who start and maybe play the full 70 minutes.

Man Of The Match: James

A clear and emphatic victory against a team who are no easy turnover.

Maybe the pre-match shenanigans, (grass too long, pitch too small and marked out incorrectly) and the last minute move to Measham Utd's pitch got to them more than it did to you.

On the day you were way too strong for last season's U12 Div 2 runners up and out played them in every area of the game. A great performance and loads of positives from the game - some great passing and wing play (making great use of the extra width), solid defending and truly fantastic support play.  Outstanding football all round.  Well done boys a truly dazzling performance and a well deserved victory.  A first victory in Div 1 and a great confidence booster.

Up the Newhall

C'mon you Blues.

A really great football match to watch. The lads played really well. The coaching tactics were spot on. When they play like this they are unstoppable.

I really enjoy these match reports Ron.

Just to echo what Jim said .....the coaching tactics were spot on hahaha joking, absolutely chuffed to bits with the way the boys listened and took the play straight off the training ground, with triangles and passing we can beat any team.

Up the Newhall !
