NEWHALL RUN RIOT IN A FANTASTIC SECOND HALF DISPLAY
Newhall seemed like the home team today with a great 28 followers at Western Park to see their team run Marlborough ragged in probably the best half of football they have played for some time. The conditions were a little blustery and the pitch was still a bit wet but playable, it didn't stop Newhall playing to their strengths with some dazzling football at times.
It didn't get off to a great start with Marlborough using a long throw in which Newhall were failing to clear with their heads and they paid the price on 5 minutes when the ball again was unchallenged and fell to the Marlborough forward to stab the ball past Luke standing in for Harry whose recovering from a nasty trampoline incident which has left him in pain after breaking some teeth, we wish him well.
So Newhall had a wake up call and they set about putting their slow start to rights, and they did just that with several opportunites squandered through good goalkeeping and poor touch, they levelled the scores after their 3rd corner of the game fell to Tyler who launched a lob from just outside the box to go over the marlborough keepers head for the equaliser.
It was deserved in a game which saw some neat touches all round but with the wind quite strong Newhall did find it difficult to guage their passing strengths to open up Marlborough more than they did in the first 35.
Half Time: Newhall 1 Marlborough 1
Phil quite rightly told the lads to settle down a bit and enjoy the game, he also moved some players around as he had spoken about before the game, moving Tyler to right midfield, Jake moving across to right back.
They got off to a flyer scoring 4 goals within 10 minutes of the restart, first of all Ben got on the end of some poor clearing in the Marlborough penalty area to easily beat the goalie into the far corner, then Tyler rifled a great effort from the wing off the inside of the post after some great passing and movement, and then Ollie got his debut goal latching onto a great through ball after some more good work down the Newhall left this time. Tyler then completed his hat trick with a sublime finish again after some dazzling passing carving Marlborough open to find him rushing onto a defence splitting pass from Brad to fire an unstoppable bullit.
Marlborough had the stuffing knocked out of them and could only reply with a harsh free kick given just outside the box which sailed over, Newhall changed a few more players around and went on to score another 2 great goals from Sean, who shot from the left after turning inside to plant a delightful effort over the keeper, then Liam finished off yet another great move on the Newhall right which saw Tyler cross for him to finish on the volley past a helpless keeper. It could have been worse had Newhall not been thwarted by some great saves and stops from the Marlborough keeper and some finishing that could have been better throughout.
Final Score: Newhall 7 Marlborough 1
Summary: Phil and Sam could not have praised the lads enough for a really fantastic second half rout with some great passing and movement, a real team effort from the lads today in difficult conditions, and everyone played their part but the man of the match had to go to the hat trick hero Tyler who exelled in the second half in his right wing position.
Linesman's viewpoint: A dodgy start from the lads today but once they got into it they never let up, the backline was the best it had been for weeks and that's after changing it 4 times throughout the game, it held it's line well today. The midfield completely dominated, and the strikers were troubling Marlborough all through, well done.
Next Game: Final game of the season St George's Away Sunday 30th March.
UP THE NEWHALL !!!
