THE LIONS TAMED AS THEY FALL TO A SINGLE GOAL

At a blustery Oversetts road cheered on by 28 home supporters Newhall just didn't get going today against their local rivals from Woodville, they huffed and puffed but failed to penetrate firing a blank for the first time this season.

Newhall did themselves no favours after gifting a goal made out of nothing in the first half, and when the ball came into the box from their right it was allowed to go right through everyone to an unmarked Joe coming in on the blind side for a simple tap in to make it 1-0 on 15 minutes. The game just ebbed and flowed without any real threat from either side with the conditions making it difficult.

Half Time: Newhall 0 Woodville Rangers 1

Although Newhall started the second half with a better all round attitude having failed to turn up for the first half, they just couldn't find a way past the stubborn Woodville rearguard marshalled well by their centre half today who covered up any cracks that appeared, Newhall did have numerous attempts on goal but left it too late before making the Rangers keeper produced the save of the game with 2 minutes left, Newhall built up on the left through Luke and Mcklane before getting to the byline and when the cross came in it was met with a great header from Lewis. It was heading for the top right corner but the Rangers keeper somehow rose to claw it away for a corner which came to nothing with the final whistle going shortly afterwards.

Full Time: Newhall 0 Woodville Rangers 1

Summary: Phil was right to point out to the lads that as he had said there was nothing to play for but their pride and enjoyment, they failed to deliver a first half performance to their normal standards and paid the price with a soft goal. There was very little in the way of passion from most of the team except for the man of the match Sam who was up for every challenge and ball today.

Linesman's viewpoint: A day to forget with a general lack of all round team effort for whatever reason today with the exception of Sam, disappointing for the watching crowd who probably saw the most inept performance of the season today particularly in the first half.

Next Game: Winshill Home Sunday 9th March 2 o'clock kick off Oversetts Road

UP THE NEWHALL !!!
