Rams react second half with a late swan song!
Rams lined up at a sunny Stapenhill Stadium with Lewis in goal, a back four comprising of Josh (LB), Mitchell (RB), Mia and Callum (CB). Tom and Thomas in the centre of midfield, Ben on the right, David on the left, Alex and Harry upfront. Substitutes were Adam, Reece, Brett and Leo.
Newhall were slow from the kick off and struggled to defend against the pace of the big Stapenhill centre forward. The Rams found it difficult to defend against the waves of attacks and Stapenhill were first on the scoresheet with a breakaway run from the attacker. Newhall came close to an equaliser when a Mia free kick found its way through to Alex who fired a shot that came back off the post. Further attacks by Stapenhill saw the Rams punished for sloppy defending with another couple of goals.
The best move of the first half came when a lovely passing interchange between Thomas, Alex and Harry resulted in a well taken goal for high past the keeper for Harry.
Adam came on for David on the left wing, Leo came on for Mitchell, Reece replaced Thomas and Brett replaced Ben.
Reece and Tom both battled well in midfield late in the first half and were distributing the ball out wide.
Stapenhill were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box that went straight through to their attacker in the box who flicked it past Lewis.
Half Time Score - Newhall Rams 1 Stapenhill Swans 4
The second half was a much better display by the Rams who defended much better than the first half.
Mia and Leo were working well in defence and Josh was preventing the winger with plenty of running to keep the Stapenhill attacks at bay.
The Rams were passing the ball better in the second half and were rewarded with a free kick. Alex struck the free kick that the Stapenhill keeper could not keep hold of to prevent the ball crossing line.
Stapenhill were awarded a penalty after Leo mistimed his challenge in the box. The striker placed it low to the left past the dive of Lewis.
Brett, Alex and Harry worked the ball well in attack. Alex took the ball out wide to the right and finished from a tight angle. (Rams 3 – Stapenhill 5)
The Rams finished the second half the brightest and battled well to prevent any further Stapenhill attacks.
Well done to everyone for a great second half performance.
Newhall Rams 3 Stapenhill Swans 5
Player of the match today went to Leo. A great second half performance in the centre of defence, non-stop running, good heading and solid tackling.
