Battling Belvedere rattle the Rams.

Rams started with Lewis in Goal, a back four comprising of Callum, Ben, Mia and David. Tom and Josh just in front of the defence. Harry on the right of midfield, Adam on the Left, Alex attacking midfield and Brett as the lone striker. Thomas and Rhys starting on the bench.

The pitch was very soft but perfectly playable though Rams struggled to get a hold of it as Belvedere set their stall out by battling from the off. Newhall had the better of the early chances but the final decision wasn't always the best option as simple passes or crosses would perhaps have brought a different attacking outcome.

Rams biggest threat came from the ever improving Harry. Brilliant advances down the right, knocking it past his man on more than one occassion and causing the Belvedere defence problems with his power, pace and vision. And indeed it was Harry that opened the scoring with a great cut in from the right and perfect finish placed hard and low and across the keeper to the far corner. 1-0 Rams.

Belvedere continued to battle well and dominated the midfield, the pacy skillfull left winger caused us problems all afternoon. And Belvedere deservedly got themselves back in the game before half time with a quick break.

Half time: Belvedere Red 1 - 1 Rams.

The Rams looked somewhat lethargic with Josh struggling, Tom not at his best, and Alex' shooting wayward. It was our opponents that went on to get the next goal, and as such it was time to change things round. Going 3 at the back, Ben moving to Right midfield and pushing Harry up to a more advanced attacking position.

Rams forced two free kicks in decent positions, the first one fired over and the second into the Belvedere defence and easilly cleared. There are times defensivley when we need to learn to put a foot through it and get it clear and other times whenattacking that we need to have a look to see what other options are available rather than trying to take on half of the team. When the players learn that, we may start to improve as a TEAM!

Rams managed to give themselves a chance of nicking something from the game when Harry galloped clear and struck a wonderfull shot cum lob over the keeper to bag his brace. 2 -2.

With the game evenly poised, and the indifferent Referee's decision making somewhat questionable at times, Rams still struggled, despite the best efforts of Lewis in goal. And deservedly, it was Belvedere who bagged the winner towards the end of the game.

There was just time for referee to brandish two yellow cards as the game got ugly. Mia clumsilly doing what was necessary to prevent another Belvedere goal by hauling down the opposition forward. And then Rhys was hacked down on the left with a high, late tackle.

Final score: Belvedere Red 3 - 2 Newhall Rams.

Player of the match went to Harry, two great goals and non stop effort.

Rams need to learn that football is a TEAM game, and that there are times when a boot clear is required, and other times when a simple pass is the better option.

Blackout winner - Sarah.

Thanks for your great support as usual and to Lyn and Nicki for the coffees and cakes. And thanks again to Ian for running the line.
