A perfect morning for football at the Shobnall arena this morning saw the young Tigers up against Ashby Ivanhoe, with the opposition only able to field 8 of the permitted 9 players but despite that we knew we would be in for a tough game.

Tigers started brightly and forced much of the early play, playing into a head wind. Tom in the middle of the park just in front of the defence playing sensibly on the ground with some neat passing and strong battling. Several efforts on target from the Tigers, but they couldn't find that elusive first goal that their play deserved. In fact it took a bit of good fortune and a neat back heal for Tigers to get off the mark. The ball back in from Tigers hit the bar, the keeper flapped and couldn't get a hold as the ball hit Alex's hand, dropped to the floor, and he back heeled it into the net. 1-0 Tigers. The only real effort of note from the opposition came in the form of a rare break away with the Ashby striker in acres of space, but Lewis came off his line brilliantly and forced the ball wide with a great hand. Half time. 1-0.

Second half and Tigers had the wind advantage but again still played some really good football on the ground. Tom again the orchestrator in the middle of the park. Mia in the centre of defence was again outstanding, strong and determined and great distribution. Little Louis Buck also showing great determination and picked up a couple of knocks for the cause. The long legged pacy Travis caused the Ashby defence problems with his surging runs down the right and some great crosses into the box from both him and Ben on the other wing.

Tigers second goal came half way through the half, some neat inter play in the middle of the park, and an inch perfect through ball played through for Josh to run onto and strongly hold off the defender and dink it past the advancing Ashby keeper. 2-0 Tigers.

Several rolling subs ensued to give each of the Tigers as much time on the pitch as possible. Thomas Connor with a couple of really fantastic headed clearances kept the opposition at bay. At the other end, Tigers looked dangerous with every attack. Adam Young found the back of the net with a neat finish from an Alex cross, only to be flagged for offside.

Tigers rounded the scoring off with a well worked goal. The ball crossed in from the right from Tom, met at the far post by Alex to slot it in for his second and Tigers third of the game. 3-0 Tigers.

It could have been more for the Tigers, but Alex was obviously flagging toward the end of the game and did well to get his shot away, across the keeper only to see it hit the far post and back out. A real shame as his attacking today deserved a hat trick.

Full time Tigers 3-0 Ashby Ivanhoe.

A truly fantastic performance today from all 12 players, each and every one played a big part in this victory. There were a fair few candidates for todays MOTM.............Mia Hill in the centre of defence, solid as a rock! Josh Lipinski on the right of defence and advancing at every opportunity, well taken goal! Alex Goodall in the midfield, skill, flair and great finishing! Tom Barlow in a more advanced role in front of the back three, made football look easy with some sensible play and great passing!

Player of the match today went to Tom Barlow for doing all the easy things right. Calm sensible football and great vision and distribution.
