NEWHALL LOSE OUT IN LAST KICK OF THE GAME

Newhall have to improve if they want to be considered for promotion this season after they surrendered a 3-0 half time lead to run out losers against an average Mayfield team.

In relatively decent conditions at the Oversetts stadium cheered on by 28 home supporters Newhall took control of the game from the start and were calm on the ball, getting their passing and wing play moving nicely, and after a number of attacks they broke through after 6 minutes when Mayfield failed to clear the danger from a corner to let Lewis step in with a simple tap in, 1-0 and a deserved lead as Newhall were making all the running.

Mayfield tried to impress on the game but the Newhall defence was holding their line well today and were coping with everything that come at them, a speculative shot was the closest Mayfield came that flew over the bar with Harry watching it all the way.

Newhall were playing some good football and kept the ball moving well with the front players making good space for the midfield to attack into and we didnt have to wait too long for the second after some good work from the left found a neat ball into Ben who looked offisde but the flag stayed down, he cooly turned and lifted the ball over the keeper.

Mayfield were really struggling up the hill to make any impression and Harry mopped anything up when Mayfiled showed any signs of getting back into the game with some sound goalkeeping, Newhall had some more opportunities to stretch their lead but couldnt take them until 5 minutes before half time when Ryan was played through with work on the right hand side this time and he made no mistake in beating the on rushing Mayfield goalkeeper.

Half Time: Newhall 3 Mayfield 0

Phil and Sam summed up the performance on the first half showing as a class act without Newhall not panicking in any way and although they knew it was going to be a different story kicking up the hill second half just told the lads to keep playing their football.

Sadly they seemed to just sit off Mayfield and they started the second half the stronger unit finding the wings as Newhall had done in the first 35 minutes and they had success on too many occaions moving forward because of the lack of energy in midfield and no attempt to close down Mayfield when they needed to be chased.

The defence switched off and they let Mayfield slowly catch up with their first half goal tally to draw level at 3-3 with 3 minutes to go, Newhall had only really created a couple of opportunities themselves throughout this half but had they just taken one of them maybe it might have been different but they seemed to run out of steam and the invitable happened with added on time being played Mayfield found the winner right at the death on 37 minutes.

Final Score: Newhall 3 Mayfield 4

Summary: It was difficult for Phil and Sam to not hide their disappointment but Phil took it on the chin with maybe making the mistake of opting to play downhilll first half, but there were some positives with the first half performance and Sam reiterated that point, but they both said the team need to go for the 70 minutes not 35. Man of the Match went to Harry who is improving weekly, his kicking and general play was excellent today the goals were just unfortunate.

Linesmans Viewpoint: A disappointing result after so much effort and good play had been shown in the first 35 minutes, too many players went missing in the second half after their first half performances, best put it down to experience and learn from the mistakes that were made in the second half but it was harsh and a draw was a fair result at the end of the day.

Next Game: Sunday 5th January Home against Woodville Rangers 10.30 am kick off.

Wishing all our players, parents, grandparents and supporters a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous 2014.

UP THE NEWHALL!!
