The Newhall Under 8's games are certainly a place to go if you wanting to see action and goals!

Another high scoring game was seen this morning with some fantastic performances seen on both teams.

Stretton started off really well and were in front before we had even touched the ball! A great passing move saw a great shot which was unstoppable for Callum playing in goal this week. They continued to be strong and exteneded there lead with an impressive start to the game.

After this slow start, we started to get a foot into the game and the team of Lewis in defence started to make some key tackles and breaking up the Stretton attacks and playing some lovely passes up to the midfield. He tackled well and broke up lots which came his way. He was left a bit exposed at times as a very good Stretton team attacked with purpose and were sharp shooters at times!

In Midfield we started with Jenson, Freya & Logan who played really well in getting up and down the pitch breaking up a well organised Stretton team who certainly tested everything which we had been working on. The midfield trio got into the game and when they had the ball they looked really dangerous and put in some really good positive runs forward. We passed the ball forward well and now we just need the last bit of composure at the end when a pass may be a better option than the dribble. However, these runs were brought with really good goals and even better shots at times. Logan was the first of the three to get his name on the scoresheet when a run through the middle was rewarded with a poke into the corner of the net which saw Logan run off with his hands in the air and a big smile on his face. He was close to adding to this as well with a couple of other really positive runs which were unfortunate not to be rewarded with a goal. Jenson's strength is fantastic and he runs all over the pitch getting the ball off the opposition and runs positively in the other half. He was rewarded with two fantastic strikes and was so unlucky not to get his first ever hat trick. How he did not manage it this week was hard to understand and his shots were powering in and he is getting a reputation for hitting the woodwork and this continued with another 3 efforts smacking against the cross bar. The third of the trio in the midfield was Freya who is seeing the ball far more as since we have changed the shape of the team. This has resulted in her confidence increasing as she gets her tackles in and moves the ball forward where she can. As i have said in a couple of previous match reports her efforts for goal would come and i am pleased to announce that her day for a goal came yesterday. Freya scored her first goal for the team as she confidently controlled the ball in the Stretton area and placed a lovely shot passed the impressive Stretton keeper. I certainly applauded as was so proud of how she had taken her chance and it is great to see her confidence gaining in the games as she does this every week in training. Freya was also close to adding to this goal so well played.

The second half saw Callum continue in goal and he played really well and this saw a clean sheet for him in the second half. the first half had seen shots at goal which he pulled off some good saves and he could do nothing about the goals passed him. the second saw us pressure Stretton really well which resulted in minimal chances for Stretton but when called upon he did his job well. He also throughout the game got the ball out to the defence with good accuracy and speed to get us attacking as quickly as we could.

Daniel came into defence in the second half and performed really well in stopping the attacks high up the pitch and putting it through to the midflelders quickly. I changed it around slightly later on which saw Daniel push further forward into midfleld later in the half and his confidence on the ball continues to grow and he dribbled passed the opposition really well and it was rewarded when his dribble around the defence saw a pass into Noah who's effort was deflecting off the defender and into the goal. This was the only goal scored in the half (some how!). The performance of the team really deserved more as we pressed the Stretton team up the pitch and had a barrage of shots on goal with the woodwork being hit on more than one occasion again in the second half. I cannot believe how many times we have hit the post and bar over the last few weeks.

Noah, Kian and Corey came on in the midfield and all performed brilliantly. Noah is a constant menace to the opposition as he does not give them a moment on the ball. He presses high up the pitch which reuslts in us getting the ball in the areas we really want the ball. Good shots were put in by him and he was so unfortunate not to add to his goals tally although it was a shot from him which resulted in the goal we finally scored. Corey put in some good tackles and when he is running with the ball he is also so hard to stop. He is tackling well and we just need to slow him down a little now and we will see a great end product in the opposition half. He did have a shot which went into the Stretton goal but unfortunetly the play had already been stopped before this so it was chalked off. Keep shooting though Corey and you will be rewarded soon. Kian continues to put his tackles in and when he gets the ball he is very confident in his ability with it. He takes his time when he gets the ball and he can pass the ball well even when it is in a difficult situation. This is a difficult skill to train and as he continues to develop his skills this will be a key component for him which will result in plenty of chances for him. He can tackle well and his shooting is getting more power now and he was very close to getting his name on the scoresheet.

Well played everyone and how we did not score more goals is a question everyone had when we spoke after the game.
