NEWHALL HOLD THEIR NERVE TO RUN OUT COMFORTABLE WINNERS

On a very warm morning in total contrast to last weeks weather conditions Newhall won the bragging rights over local rivals TS Sports, to be fair to Newhall once they got to understand the TS strengths they dominated the game having let them back into it within 5 minutes of the second half.

Newhall had a full squad to pick from for the first time this season with some changes to the start line up due to players missing training but they seemed to get off to yet another sluggish start with hardly any pressing play and a bit of meandering round the pitch rather than effort, still it was Newhall to show first with concerted pressure on the TS goal and they could have done better with their first few efforts but once again they sailed harmlessly over the bar. It was a right tussle in midfield with TS basically too strong in the challenges they were clearly trying to throw Newhall off their stride and it was working. However the first goal came Newhall's way after some movement on the wings saw the ball fall to Josh who hit a low effort which the goalkeeper couldn't keep out.

On the balance of play it was deserved and although TS kept trying the long ball over the top Newhall were just about keeping the lively number 10 of TS at bay, then another fine move on the right saw the ball come across the area only for a TS defender to handle and give away a penalty, it looked a bit harsh but James coolly came up and smashed it past the TS keeper 2-0 up and Newhall played the rest of the half trying to work out a better way through the TS defence with TS hardly making any advances, in fact I cannot remember Harry having to make one save in the first half.

Half Time TS Sports 0 Newhall 2

Changes to the front line at half time saw were all that was needed as the defence had returned to its normal back line with Sam coming on after 20 minutes to free up Sean on to the right wing, Tyler dropping into the partnership with Sam with Jake right back and Liam left back who had been the most consistent player throughout the first 35 minutes.

The second half kicked off with a sense of urgency from TS who looked to try and get the next goal, and it came after some centre play that left the Newhall defence split for the TS number 10 to run on and beat Harry into the far corner, you could sense a come back was on the cards and they equalised after another through ball down the right this time found it's way across the goal to a totally unmarked TS player to side foot it in the empty net.

Newhall though responded with a goal immediately at the other end from the kick off, it was almost as if TS thought the game was won as Newhall just ran through unchallenged for Connor to plant a great effort into the far corner, with a lot of noise coming from the sidelines you could feel the tension and it spilled over a little onto the sidelines after a TS player was adjudged to have been offside, the play carried on and the TS forward missed anyway only for the play to be bought back for the offside as the linesman stood shouting at the referee with his flag remaining up.

A number of rants came the way of the linesman who had to put up with some unacceptable language and accusations on the far touch line which he reported to the referee at the end of the game, it seemed to spur Newhall on as we are a complete team both on and off the field as they went on the rampage to play their game and riffle 4 goals in quick succession, TS had fell apart and had no answer to the football Newhall were playing.

They went on to score 2 more and really if they wanted could have had a hatful, TS replied with a late consolation with yet another ball over the top, it was Newhall who played the better football, it was clear to see as to why Newhall ran out the easy winners in the end. Newhalls scorers in amongst all this wonderful display of football were Connor who scored 2 more for his hat trick the 3rd one being stunning, Ryan, Sean, Luke, and Mcklane.

Full Time: TS Sorts 3 Newhall 9

Summary: Dave and Phil rapped up the final score as one of sheer determination on the part of the lads who were desperate to win the game given they know each other as players, bu there were some shortfalls in the middle of the park again which need to be sorted out moving forward, other than that once they settled down to playing their game and not falling into playing the game the TS way, it was relatively easy for them. One player stood out today and he is slowly progressing and developing his game at left back and that was Liam who was awarded the Man Of The Match.

Linesman's Viewpoint: Totally agreed with the comments at the end of the game, still some more work to be done on the central areas which leave the defence too vulnerable having to defend higher up the pitch, despite the abuse on the sidelines, it was pleasing to see Newhall run out winners in a game which they played the football and the opposition struggled to play against a better team for large parts of the game, at least it silenced the home supporters.

Next Game: League Cup Sunday 29th September Rolleston at Oversetts Road 10.30 kick off.

UP THE NEWHALL!!

Hi all, as I know that more read this report than comment (usually Phil!) that you all make any comments you feel are appropriate not necessarily directly about the report (unless of course I got it wrong) but for input to the team as a whole. Sometimes things are easier written down than said if you want to get anything off your chest good or bad. Dave and Phil welcome any feedback parents and have an open door policy, the parents, family, grand parents and friends of the club are as important as the players. Need I say more...... HAVE YOUR SAY!!

And always remember that if someone wants to become the report writer as they have journalistic licence ha ha, feel free to ask for the role, not that I am retiring or anything but it is important we all play a part in a great club.

UP THE NEWHALL!!
