Newhall U13 Rams (5) v Hilton Harriers Orange (7)
Match report by
Date filed: 15 Sep 2013
Played: 15th September 2013
A really good close game of football see's Rams edged out.
Rams starting line up: Lewis (GK), Callum (RB), Mia & Travis (CB), Thomas (LB), Tom (DM & Capt), Alex (AM), Ben (RM), Leo (LM), Harry & Brett (ATT).
Subs: Adam, Rhys, Mitchell. (Josh Injured and not risked)
Rams started the game brightly and forced the early attacks. Harry in an advanced position worked hard early on and took a couple of shots from distance when perhaps he had more time to take them on, Brett also working hard and batling well. Alex with his power caused problems but his shooting was slightly wayward as Rams struggled to get off the mark. Their perserverence paid off however as they got 3 first half goals as the half wore on. Good work and great balls into the box by Alex and great goals by Brett X 2 and Harry with the other after great pressing on the keeper and a little dink finish. In reply Hilton managed to get 2 themselves. One by means of a penalty after Travis was penalised for holding in the box, which was the correct decision. The Rams defence struggled at times again, the long ball catching them out at the back, with the pace of the tall Hilton striker. We need to learn to drop off 10 yards and anticipate better.
Half Time - Rams 3 - 2 Hilton.
Changes made at the start of the second half with Mitchel on the right wing and Adam on the left with Rhys on shortly into the half up front for Harry.
Some of our inexperience showed second half. Players getting caught out positionally and struggling to get into the game and the other players getting frustrated. Mitchell did well on the right of midfield and Travis marked the Hilton attacker better second half. Hilton got their tails up second half and broke well on more than one occasion. Rams were further weakend when Tom picked up an injury hitting it back in awkwardly and twisting his ankle.
So Hilton got back into the game and went ahead as Rams stuggled to cope for the second game running. Teams are all too aware of threat posed by Alex and are doubling or even tripling up players on him to neutralise the threat, but he continued to battle and got his rewards with 2 second half goals. In reply though Hilton managed to get 5.
Full Time - Rams 5 - 7 Hilton.
MOTM - Harry, a great first half display rewarded with a goal. Also a mention to Travis who did really well on his first game back, he will only getter stronger and better.
Blackout winner - Shaun.
In summary: We need to work hard on the defence. We need to be stronger in the challenge, learn to put a foot through it to get clear and anticipate the distance of kicks and our position. We will always be a threat up front and it was great to see Harry and Brett get on the scoresheet. It will take time for the new players to settle and learn where they need to be on the pitch. But they will continue to get time on the pitch, otherwise they won't improve.
Many thanks for your support again today.
