A fantastic performance was witnessed by the parents and grandparents this morning as all the players settled into the new season really well.

The starting five consisted of Logan in goal, Callum in defence, Jenson and Kian in midfield and Daniel up front.

Callum was made captain for the game and he took this in brilliantly putting in some great tackles in on the opposition and starting lots of moves off from the back. Apart from one mistimed challenge you could say he had a perfect game.

Logan pulled off some fine saves as Whittington showed what a good team they were with some good passing. Nothing was going to get passed him in goal though using every part of his body to stop them scoring. The best save coming when he dived across getting his whole body there and managing to include his nose in the stopping!

Jenson and Kian did some super work in the midfield working tirelessly up and down the pitch. Some good tackles, passing and dribbling was great to see. Kian is growing with confidence each game and he continues to listen which you can see is paying off as he gets more involved in each game. Jenson did some surfing runs and was really unlucky not to get his name on the score sheet today. However, he did want to get in goal slightly earlier than I wanted as he handled the ball not once but twice conceding penalties for Whittington. His face was a picture the first time with I think the expression Oop's coming out! The first penalty was put wide but unfortunately despite Logan getting his hands up to it, he could not keep the second one out.

Daniel played the striker role well and is growing with confidence in this position. He wants to be the scorer the goals and it will not be long if he continues to perform as his is at the moment. Despite suffering from a cough he worked hard putting the defence under pressure and bringing others UNO the game.

At half time the team was changed to Jenson in goal, Lewis making his first game or the team in defence, Logan and Corey in midfield and Freya playing in attack.

They started where the others had lef the first half. Passing and dribbling was bring done superbly by the midfield pairing with Lewis putting some fantastic tackles in at the back. Freya worked really hard up front and the confidence being seen from her now is brilliant as she gets more involved each week.

The surging runs of both Logan and Corey could not be coped with and is was not long before the game was level with Logan dribbling passed a couple of players before a last ditch tackle stopped him from shooting. Thankfully the ball fell nice for Corey to shoot into the corner of the net to score his first goal the team.

We continued to press for a second goal with a few unlucky efforts. We got into some good positions and our pressure came good in the end with Lewis getting on the scoresheet to make it a first game to remember. He was unlucky earlier in the half when he had a free kick finish just wide of the post. When another opportunity arose he shot brilliantly from distance into he bottom corner of the net and the joy on his and the others was a great picture of joy!

When called upon Jenson saved what he had shot at him as he certainly experienced a boy from Whittington who had a great shot on him. He pulled off a number of good saves but unfortunately he was beaten late in the game with them scoring following hitting the post.

Despite the late goal every single player can be proud of themselves for putting a great performance on. To pick a player of the match today is very difficult but have picked Logan for his performance both in goal in the first half and for his energy and dribbling from midfield in the second half, despite his normal quest continuing from last season and having to be seen for kicks and bumps!

Well done everyone, see you on Wednesday at training.
