Newhall played out another friendly ahead of the season's opener this Sunday at the Oversetts Stadium in front of 32 onlooking spectators in very hot conditions without a scrap of wind to cool everyone down, most unusual for the Oversetts! It was another gruelling game split into 3x20 minute sessions for the benefit of Woodville who have by far a lot larger squad than Newhall, but it wasn't to be numbers that counted against a Newhall side where the majority have been together since the under eights, and it showed.

I am not going to labour the report but other than one lapse out of the 3 goals Woodville scored the overall performance from the lads was committed and full of effort where everyone played there part throughout the whole 60 minutes.

This was the first time they had played on the top pitch so it was good to get to play before the season gets underway so the team can get the measure of what they need to watch for when kicking in either direction, but they dominated the vast majority of the game and never conceded a goal in the middle section which was pleasing, so much was their dominance in that period Woodville only achieved a corner and 1 strike on goal that flashed wide from the ever dangerous Aaron.

So a hat trick for Ryan, 2 for James, and one each for Mcklane, Connor and Ben saw Newhall ease home in very tough humid conditions, there were many moments throughout the game worth writing about but the best goal came from a marauding run down the right channel from half way by Tyler that saw him ghost past several defenders to put a great low cross in for Mcklane to tap home, that's not to suggest any of the others were not crafted or spectacular as James proved for his second of the game whipping in a great strike on an angle from the left into the top far corner, magic!

Final Score: Newhall U14 8 Woodville Rangers U14 3

Phil and Dave's summary was easy today but the most pleasing aspect was how the lads listened to their advice, repeatedly playing the ball wide and supporting each other as they passed and moved the ball around creating endless chances tonight, the defence was solid with Harry starting to find his voice in goal and his general kicking was excellent.

Linesman's Viewpoint: Nothing to add tonight but if the lads come back each week with the same energy and commitment we saw this evening, on this showing it's hard to imagine what team can stop them returning to the top flight at the end of the campaign.

Have a great season lads!
