A frustrating start to the season for the all new Newhall Lions Youth where the score really didn’t represent the performance from the lads.
Played in the hot afternoon sunshine and with only 7 out of the 13 players playing from last season’s team, 6 new signings making their league debut for the Lions. It was our first league outing of the season after 2 friendlies to try and gel the team together.
During the first 20 minutes Newhall were excellent, knocking the ball around just like a Thursday night training session and were unfortunate not to take the lead on 2 occasions when good crosses from both full backs were not taken advantage of. Sure enough we were made to pay with 2 quick goals from well judged through balls and then an outstanding effort from outside the area that flew into the top corner. Our goalkeeper was called on to make a couple of excellent saves as we approached the interval.
3-0 to Doveridge at half time and all 13 players had played a part during the first half. The final pass/ball was just not working for Newhall today. Unfortunately the second half wasn’t much kinder and as the players tired in the heat, Doveridge took full advantage tucking away 4 more goals in the second half after some good possession and pressure from Newhall for a 15 minute period when they were unlucky not to register on the scoresheet.
The first game out of the way and some areas of improvement to work on at training on Thursday. Nevertheless, the result truly didn’t match the effort and performance from the team and we look onward and upwards to next week’s match away at Barton Rovers Spartans.
A big thanks to all parents for their support and assistance. See you all at Barton next Sunday morning!
