Eagles Clinch Runners Up with Epic Result!
Newhall's eagles confirmed runners up spot in the Derbyshire Girls and Ladies U16's League with a superb performance against Sherwin at Alvaston Park on Wednesday evening!
The game started scrappily with both teams struggling to get a hold of the ball.
Ella Walker was first up to test the keeper but her shot was well held.
The eagles had now got the ball down and began to play forcing Sherwin on to the back foot resulting in an eagles corner, up stepped Keeley Deery, on 8 minutes, and curled the ball straight in at the back post, superb!
With the girls still celebrating Sherwin attacked and the ball was cleared to the edge of the box where the waiting Sherwin player fired the ball past Chloe Woodward, another superb strike.
The eagles regrouped and on 10 minutes Rosie Collins picked out Emily Bridge with a nice pass, Emily ran into the box and fired into the net.
On 14 minutes Emily got her second after a good run down the right from Rosie, crossing for Emily to run onto the ball and smash it past the keeper.
Rosie had the better of the full back and another run saw her find Natalie Eley who's shot was just over. Rosie then set up Emily who's clever flick forced the keeper into a fine save. Keeley then saw a header well saved after another fine Rosie cross.
On 28 minutes Natalie got on the score sheet, Rosie's corner found Natalie made no mistake from six yards.
Sherwin tested Chloe with a good long range shot and Chloe's kick found Ella who ran through the middle of the defence and struck her shot low into the corner of the net.
The eagles were well in control and captain, Courtney Macintosh, was trying to get in the goals but her shot was just wide.
Charlotte Catlin, who is one of only four players in the team not to score this season, pushed up for a corner and saw her header wide of the post.
Mikeala Colebrook saw a good long shot well saved and Natalie was clean through but Sherwins keeper was quick off Her line to gather the ball.
On 60 minutes Natalie picked up the ball in the middle and found Rosie on the right, Rosie returned the ball and Natalie ran into the box before finishing well.
On 62 minutes Natalie completed her hat trick and took her goal tally for the season to 22 goals, Emily's excellent pass allowed Natalie to run onto the ball and finish calmly.
Jodie Houghton should have extended the eagles lead but fired wide and Rosie picked out Jodie again but her shot was well saved.
On 68 minutes Rosie got the goal she deserved, Natalie fed Rosie down the right and her run took her into the area and her shot found the bottom corner, fantastic!
The eagles completed the scoring on 69 minutes with Jodie arriving at the back post to finish well past Sherwins keeper.
The eagles could have had double figures with Keeley having her shot cleared off the line and Ella firing over and then forcing the keeper into one last smart save!
Squad - Chloe Woodward, Whitney Garner, Kiera Dyche, Cortney Mcintosh, Charlotte Catlin, Rosie Collins, Mikeala Colebrook, Natalie Eley, Keeley Deery, Ella Walker, Emily Bridge, Jodie Oughton, Melita Astle, Chloe Johnston.
POM - Another superb team performance, but my last player of the match goes to Rosie, great play down the right setting up numerous chances, and getting a goal herself!
It's was a great way to clinch runners up spot in our last game as NFC eagles and the girls played some lovely football, scored some great goals and the champagne corks after the final whistle.
Well done to all the squad who have yet again done as I asked at the start of the season, that is to better the previous seasons final position in the league.
Well done ladies and thank you for all your effort this and for the previous seasons.
Thanks to Stuart Dyche for his fantastic support and to all the parents for your continued support for the eagles, FANTASTIC!!!
It was very fitting that we played our last game as Newhall FC Eagles against Sherwin who we have come through the BJFL and Derby League with. They were also playing their last game before going their separate ways. Thank you to Sherwin's manager Patrick and good luck to all the Sherwin girls in their foot balling futures!
Thanks to all at NFC who have supported myself and the girls over the years and to all the coaches that came down and gave me a hand at the NFC Academy without which the girls team would not have began.
Special thanks to Paul Cantrill for asking me to get involved at NFC and to Steve Poxon, Darren Cooke and Stuart Dyche for their help and support with the girls along the way!
Good luck to all the NFC teams for the tournament weekend and all the very best to all for the future!!
