Eagles Win 7 Goal Thriller to Regain Second Spot!

Newhalls eagles edged out our nearest rivals for runners up in the league, Wirksworth, with an epic performance!!

The eagles got off to a superb start on 1 minute with Rosie Collins getting down the right and putting in a superb cross, Keeley Deery appeared from no where at the back post to fire the ball into the net.

From the kick off Wirksworth leveled, the player found space outside the box and her great shot dropped over the head of Chloe Woodward in the eagles goal.

Natalie Eley saw a fine shot just wide and she nearly got the eagles back in front after a long Kiera Dyche throw was knocked on and the keeper made a decent save.

Rosie was full of running down the right and she forced the keeper into a good save on the post and Melita Astle fired wide after good build up from the girls.

Rosie had the better of the Wirksworth defender and she broke again firing from the edge of the box forcing the keeper into a full length save to her left to push the shot round the post.

Chloe produced the next save, diving well to her left and the eagles defence reacted superbly clearing the danger.

Kiera's long throw was causing Wirksworth big problems and they nearly scored and own goal as the defender tried to head the ball away!

On 38 minutes the eagles regained the lead with Emily Bridges corner finding Natalie at the back post to finish superbly.

Just before half time Rosie again found space and her shot was just wide.

HT 2-1

The second half saw the eagles looking to wrap up the match and Emily's great shot forced the Wirksworth keeper into another fantastic save.

Chloe was next in action well off her line to close down the attack and then Wirksworth appealed for a penalty after a mad scrabble in the eagles area saw some last ditch defending to get the ball clear.

Wirksworth should have leveled but somehow the player fired over from two yards.

Ella Walker saw her well hit shot well saved and on the follow up the eagles where awarded a penalty with the Wirksworth defence desperate to clear.

Emily decided straight away she wanted the kick and she gave the keeper no chance smashing the ball confidently into the corner of the net on 57 minutes.

Wirksworth picked up the pace and on 63 minutes they leveled with a fine attack down the left, the player continued into the box and put the ball past the advancing Chloe.

Wirksworth pushed to level and Chloe produced a fantastic double save blocking the first shot and then back up to thwart the follow up, excellent save!

On 70 minutes the eagles looked to have the game in the bag, Rosie down the right was causing trouble and after the ball broke in the area Ella reacted superbly to fire the ball into the top corner with Wirksworths keeper well beaten.

Wirksworth didn't cave in and on 73 minutes they got their third, a well struck shot hit Chloe's post and the unmarked player followed up to find the net.

This made for a nervous last 7 minutes but the eagles stood firm and saw out the match in fine style!

Squad - Chloe Woodward, Kiera Dyche, Courtney Mcintosh, Charlotte Catlin, Rosie Collins, Mikeala Colebrook, Natalie Eley, Keeley Deery, Melita Astle, Emily Bridge, Ella Walker, Chloe Johnson, Whitney Garner.

POM - Doesn't get any easier with a fantastic team effort, Chloe making important saves, Kiera, Courtney and Charllote superb at the back, Keeley and Rosie fantastic down the wings,Mikeala and Natalie strong in midfield, Melita looking to add to her goal tally, Whitney, as always, full of running, Ella and Emily both scoring superb goals and superb attitude and Chloe chasing every ball with out fear!

My vote goes to Rosie, superb, constantly causing Wirksworth problems!!
