Tigers first game of the season at a bright but very windy Shobnall.
Tigers started very brightly and battled well and forced much of the early play making full use of the wind advantage. This saw Tigers race into an early lead when Alex broke on the right and beat the Midway keeper to the ball to slot home for 1-0. This saw the Midway keeper take a knock and be replaced in goal for the remainder of the half. Tigers doubled there lead again with Alex breaking down the right and slamming a hard low driver past the keeper. The Newhall defence looked solid and well marshalled by Tom in the centre.
Tigers 3rd goal is already a contender for goal of the season. Dominic picking it up in the centre circle and a speculative looping effort dipped over the Midway keeper and into the net to make it Tigers 3-0 Midway, and this is how it stayed till half time.
We knew we would have our backs to the wall as the wind seemed to pick up as the second half got underway. Various positional changes required to ensure all the players got some meaningful time on the pitch but this disrupted the Newhall flow and we struggled to get a foothold in the game. Indeed it was Midway that had much of the play, with the tricky Adam Palmer down the left causing problems for the Newhall defence. Midway clawed thereselves back into it with some well taken goals and also a bit of luck as Lewis couldn't get a hard low shot into his full grasp and the ball broke for the Midway striker. With the game locked at 3-3 the Tigers continued to battle hard in the searing heat, Tom picked up a knock and Mia took the reigns in the centre of defence. It was Midway who scored again though to make the scoreline 4-3. However, Tigers dug deep and Alex made one of his famous mazy runs into the box and drilled it over the 6 yard box, only for no Newhall player able to get a touch onto it.
And thats how it ended. Midway White 4-3 Newhall Tigers.
A really great game of football in very hot conditions. Tigers more than matched their opponents who had played league one football last season.
Player of the match award today chosen by Judith, went to Dominic for a fantastic goal, great heading and a very vocal performance.
The first 'blackout' of the season was won by David, (Lewis's grandad) thanks all for your support!

Its a cliche but it really was a game of two halves. Three excellent goals for the Tigers. Who knows perhaps if we had kept it to three-nil for a little while in the second half it could have been a different story but an encouraging start to the season despite the scoreline. Onwards and upwards!

What a fantastic advert for kids football, the wind was a major factor and the team with it was dominant each half. Felt a bit weird rooting for Midway with Adam's Newhall connection. Dominic's goal was a bit special.

Sounds like the Lewis family had a lucky weekend as Lewis won the blackout at the U13 Lions game. Thanks to Chris, Shaun and Lewis for watching our game today, it was nice to see Lewis again.
