Today saw the Tigers back in action after a 4 week lay off. The game saw us up against high flying league one side Marlborough Rovers black.
Starting line up: Lewis (GK), Josh (RB & Capt), Mia (CB), Travis (LB), Tom (DM), Thomas (RM), Alex (AM), Adam (LM), Brett (ATT), Subs: Louis, Dom, Ben, Harry.
Tigers started well enough with the opening exchanges scrappy. Marlborough soon found themselves 2 goals to the good after about 10 minutes. However, Tigers continued to battle and Alex pulled one back and things looked quite even at 2-1. But with Mia not 100% she was soon withdrawn and a defensive shuffle left Tigers exposed on numerous occassions. They did manage to work a few chances and were unlucky not to add to their solitary goal when an Alex header went just wide. And Lewis in goal saved well on numerous occassions to keep the score down.
The half time score didn't reflect the effort the players had put in and it was quite harsh to go in 5-1 down.
All we asked for was for them to put in 100% effort second half and thats what we got. Yes we shipped a fair few goals second half but they all continued to try and battle, Harry in the centre of midfield had by far his best game in a Newhall shirt and was a front runner for MOTM, along with Travis who had a solid game in defence and organises well vocally.
So the final score was 10-1 to Marlborough, but we can't fault their efforts today, it was just a case of being beaten by the better team, in a game that was played in the right spirit from both sets of players and a note worthy round of applause from the Marlborough players as Tom was carried off late on, this was great to see!
So thats the Tigers cup run over for another year at the QF stage, and its the old cliche now of concentrating on the league.
Todays MOTM - A special cup edition, went to Travis. Not affraid to put a boot in where it hurts and great vocal organisation.
