BJFL U12 Cup Final Report - Tigers Proud Despite Final Defeat

In typical cup-final sunny weather, and playing at Marlborough's superb Measham Road pitch, the Tigers took on league champions Belvedere Park Red in our first ever cup final - a showpiece end to the under 12 season.  With fantastic support from both sides, the two sets of players took to a perfect pitch and played out an entertaining match.  In the early exchanges, both sides struggled to impose themselves on one another and after 15 minutes, Belvedere caught the Tigers napping from an advanced throw in to take the lead, 0-1.  The goal seemed to steel the Tigers though and they slowly began to create chances of their own and it came as no shock to see Callum force his way through and net an equaliser on 25 minutes.  1-1 and the Tigers, backed by a large vocal support now had their tails up and were riding the sway in momentum of the match.  This was halted by the half time whistle and at this stage the game looked to be turning into a very even game.  The feeling was that the next goal could be pivotal.

After half time, credit to Belvedere, they pressed the Tigers all over the pitch and as a result we couldn't quite get our fluent passing game going.  The crucial second goal came on 34 minutes after an attack down the Tigers left with a finish from a tight angle, 1-2. Could the Tigers respond again?  With the momentum swinging back to Belvedere, they took full advantage with another goal on 37 minutes leaving the Tigers with a mountain to climb.  After working so hard in training leading up to this Final, the Tigers now saw their dream fading and understandably lost some focus during a difficult period.  Belvedere were by now dominating and when they added a fourth goal after 45 minutes to make it 1-4, the Tigers game was up.  It could have got even worse but desperate defending in a goal mouth scramble five minutes from time stirred the Tigers back into life and with encouragement from the sidelines they lifted their heads to show some final resolve in the closing minutes of the game.  A few hearts were broken on the full time whistle but the Tigers can be immensely proud of their season and they certainly played their part in this Final.

George picked up the Tigers Man of the Match trophy before the boys received their runners-up medals and applauded their opponents Belvedere who completed a league and cup double.

Congratulations to Belvedere and thank you to everyone at the BJFL, the officials and Marlborough Rovers FC for putting on a great occasion.

Thanks to all who came down from the wider Newhall FC family to support us.  Thank you Tigers parents for all your support over the last few weeks in particular and lastly, a big well done to all the Tigers players for your commitment and effort over the whole season.  You are a credit to the club.
